Last Tuesday I ran a boat trip around Torbay for the delegates of ICEE 9, after my boss had to stay behind at Living Coasts to handle the scheduled evening tour because another colleague had had to go home ill. It was daunting, to say the least - doing a microphone commentary about marine wildlife for over a hundred experts by myself was definitely a challenge. It went well despite seeing neither the bottlenose dolphins that had been sighted two hours before we set out nor the common dolphins that had been seen from Berry Head the previous evening.

We were in luck with seals, though! The wonderfully hilarious skippers took us out to Mewstone to get a look at the grey and common seals that had hauled themselves up onto the rocks. On the way back we got a very quick glimpse of a harbour porpoise surfacing right alongside the boat, but it was too quick for me to get a picture. It was definitely exciting to see.
